That Vaccination Really Hurt! I'm Not a Diva.

Diary entry 5/10/10 (age, 4 months) - I love my new mom. I snuggle up around the top of her head at night and my world feels cozy and secure. I'm getting used to the human species because I get lots of love from all my mom's friends. But something happen today that rocked my little puppy world - a vaccination. Mom said it wouldn't hurt and I'd get a cookie right after. That's what the scary vet told her...I heard him! He put the needle in my neck which is a standard protocol. I felt a searing pain shoot down my spine and extremities. I couldn't stop yelping and my mom was crying. The vet said that Cavaliers are known for being divas and I'd get over it. He was SO uncaring and mean!!

I didn't get over it and I wasn't being a diva...at least not this time! You see, I have Syringomeylia, better known as "SM." This bad disease produces fluid-filled cysts that compresses and damages my tiny spinal cord from its center outward. When the vet gave me a shot in the neck, he pierced a cyst and the pain was excruciating. It continued for days and days. My mom didn't know what was wrong because as she had no idea what SM was and honestly, neither did the vet. If you have a Cavalier puppy, it best not to give shots in the neck just to be on the safe side. Try our cute little rear ends instead! Love, Trisha
